Randomized_Clinical_Trial:_Probiotics_Alleviated_Oral-Gut_Microbiota_Dysbiosis_and_Thyroid_Hormone_Withdrawal-Related_Complications_in_Thyroid_Cancer_Patients_Before_Radioiodine_Therapy_Following_Thyroidectomy

Publication: Background:_Thyroid_hormone_withdrawal_(THW)_in_postoperative_thyroid_cancer?patients_who_need_always_accompanied_by_complications_(e.g.,_dyslipidemia_and_constipation)._At_present,_there_are_no_effective_and_safe_means_to_alleviate_these?complications.__Purpose:_We_aimed_to_assess_the_oral-gut_microbiota_profiles_in_THW_patients_then?investigate_whether_probiotics_could_alleviating_alleviate_THW_related_complications_and_investigate_whether_these_therapeutic_effects_were_associated_with_the_oral-gut_microbiota_state.__Methods:_Fifty_eligible_thyroid_carcinoma_patients_undergoing_thyroidectomy_were_randomly_assigned_to_receive_probiotics_or_placebo_during_THW._Complications_were_assessed_through_validated_questionnaires_and_plasma_lipid_indicators._The_complex_probiotics_preparation_was_composed_of_Bifidobacterium_infantis,_Lactobacillus_acidophilus,_Enterococcus_faecalis,_and_Bacillus_cereus.__Results:_Probiotics_alleviated_lack_of_energy,_constipation,_weight_gain,_and_dry_mouth_and_decreased_the_levels_of_fecal/serum_LPS_and_plasma_lipid_indicators_(total_cholesterol,_triglycerides,_low-density_lipoprotein,_and_apolipoprotein_A)_(P_<_0.05)._Gut_and_oral_microbial_diversity_were_significantly_decreased_after_THW,_while_an_increased_microbial_dysbiosis_index_(MDI)_was_observed._Probiotics_distinctly_restored_the_gut_and_oral_microbial_diversity._Increased_Holdemanella,_Enterococcus,_and_Coprococcus_2,_while_decreased_Fusobacterium,_Eubacterium_ruminantium_group,_Ruminococcus_1,_and_Parasutterella_in_the_gut_were_found_after_probiotics_intervention._Lack_of_energy,_constipation,_weight_gain,_and_dyslipidemia_were_seen_to_be_related_to_the_above_microbiota._In_addition,_probiotics_reduced_oral_Prevotella_9,_Haemophilus,_Fusobacterium,_and_Lautropia,_which_were_positively_correlated_with_the_occurrence_of_dry_mouth.__Conclusion:_Probiotics_reduce_the_incidence_of_complications_in_patients_after_THW,_which_may_be_related_to_modifying_the_oral_and_gut_microbiota.
