The_Crosstalk_Between_Saliva_Bacteria_and_Fungi_in_Early_Childhood_Caries

Publication: Early_childhood_caries_(ECC)_is_the_most_prevalent_oral_disease_in_children,which_greatly_affects_the_quality_of_life_and_health_condition_of_the_patients._Although_co-infection_of_oral_streptococci_and_fungi_has_been_well_recognized_in_the_development_of_ECC,the_correlation_between_other_core_members_of_oral_mycobiome_and_ECC_progression_remains_unclear._In_the_current_study,saliva_samples_obtained_from_severe_ECC_(SECC),ECC,and_caries-free_children_were_collected,and_both_V3¨CV4_16S_rRNA_and_ITS1_rRNA_gene_amplicon_sequencing_were_performed_to_investigate_the_salivary_bacterial_and_fungal_profiles._Significant_alteration_of_salivary_fungal_community_in_SECC/ECC_children_was_observed_compared_with_the_caries-free_control._The_typing_analysis_determined_the_fungal_community_into_five_fungal_types,which_influenced_the_structure_of_salivary_bacteria._By_performing_Spearman_correlation_analysis,carious_phenotypes_were_positively_related_to_Fusobacterium_but_negatively_linked_to_Neocosmospora,and_a_significant_correlation_of_cross-kingdom_taxonomic_pairs_was_identified._Our_work_demonstrated_the_interactions_between_oral_bacteria_and_fungi_at_the_community_level,which_may_advance_our_knowledge_on_the_etiological_role_of_bacteria/fungi_in_the_development_of_ECC_and_promote_better_management_of_this_disease.
